How the collagen in your skin decreases
Your skin gets its structure and firmness from a network of collagen, called the collagen matrix. This matrix ensures a nice firm and smooth skin. Unfortunately, the amount of collagen in your skin rapidly decreases after your 40s. And you notice this in wrinkles, looser and thinner skin, a less defined jawline, and the visible effects of gravity.
The decrease in collagen even begins from your 25s, but under the influence of your hormones, you can lose a lot of collagen rapidly after your 40s. Taking collagen as a food supplement is one option, although experts are not yet sure whether it really works. Applying collagen

These molecules can bind to water molecules and hold them up to 600 times their own weight. They are like tiny sponges that absorb moisture from the air and from your deeper skin layers. Your own hyaluronic acid molecules are therefore responsible for that supple, radiant, and smooth skin you had as a child.
But alas, your body produces less and less hyaluronic acid as you age. By the time you're 40, only 50% of the hyaluronic acid in your body remains.
